#43 Todd & Talia Savren-McCormick, PART 1 - Two Heroes: A Bone Marrow Donor & Recipient
from Happiness in Progress · host Danielle Craig
You may have seen Skye Savren-McCormick's story on People Magazine, The Washington Post, Good Morning America, CBS news and many more. Skye played a big role in a wedding as the flower girl, but only after the bride saved Skye's life with a bone marrow transplant. Skye has spent the majority of her young life fighting cancer. She has had three bone marrow transplants - two of which came from Hayden Ryals. Hayden asked Skye to be in her wedding as the flower girl. Hayden was very literally Skye's hero, but Hayden says the same about Skye. In this episode you'll hear from Skye's parents. Next week you'll hear from Hayden. In this episode we talk about living in a tiny hospital room, the importance of taking even just five minutes for self care, following mom gut - even when that means you're standing up to medical experts — and the worst day of their lives - hearing their daughter only had 10% chance of survival. As we kick of Childhood Cancer Awareness month, 18-44 year olds can also get in the bone marrow registry. It is just a cotton swab to the inner cheek.
