438. Tuskegee dress code: dressing up shouldn't be a White expectation only

from The UPstander's Podcast with Dr. Omekongo · host Dr. Omekongo Dibinga

I respect that people have differing opinions about Tuskegee's dress code. The part I cannot accept is the idea that dressing down is a Black cultural thing and having Black students dress up is some form of respectability politics. Black people have always had professional standards in all aspects of our history because of the respect we have for ourselves, not because we were trying to fit into White spaces. Even if you disagree with dress code, the type of thinking I describe above is backwards. #tuskegee #tuskegeeuniversity #alabama #dresscodes #dresscode #upstander Learn more about your ad choices.
