#44 Hayden Ryals, Part 2 - Two Heroes: A Bone Marrow Donor & Recipient
from Happiness in Progress · host Danielle Craig
"It made me feel worthy. It made me feel strong. It made me feel like I am supposed to be here and I can help other people." You may recognize Hayden Ryals from a viral story over the summer. She is the woman who first donated her bone marrow to save a 1-year-old with leukemia - and then, years later, invited her to be the flower girl at her wedding. You likely saw Hayden and little Skye's story online - or on Good Morning America, People Magazine, CNN or one of the many other news organizations. In part one of this episode series - you heard from Skye Savren-McCormick's parents about fighting cancer and how Hayden literally saved Skye's life. Now you'll hear from Hayden who says Skye saved her life. We talk about how her bone marrow donation led her to find clarity, eased her anxiety and depression and gave her a new world view. Of course, we also talk about giving bone marrow. AND as we kick of Childhood Cancer Awareness month, 18-44 year olds can also get in the bone marrow registry. I'm so excited to be working with the Mail Tribune to hold a Bone Marrow Registry Drive. If you are a southern Oregon listener - come out and get your cheek swabbed to be put in the registry. Tuesday, September 18th 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Mail Tribune Offices 111 N. Fir St., Medford If you are not a local listener and would like a kit sent to your home - you register here.
