#49 Going Blind - Milton

from One Moment Please · host One Moment Please

Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a group of rare, genetic disorders that involve a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina. It is hereditary and often ends in total vision loss. Suffers are mostly diagnosed in their teens. Unusually my father was diagnosed with this condition at the age of 57. Now 70, my dad talks about his journey of slowly losing his sight and the impact his diagnoses has had on his life. We talk: fishing, retirement, sight loss, family, learning to walk with a white cane, guide dogs and the dangers of talking with your hands when you can’t see waiters with drink trays beside you.
