5.1 Dark Side of SSRIs with David Healy: RANT and Guest Intro

from Renegade Psych · host Ethan P. Short, MD

For the first time, I am combining my intro monologue/rant with my guest introduction of Dr. David Healy.  In our series, our primary topic is the dark side of SSRIs, with segments emphasizing the true side effect profile of SSRIs, which include suicide/homicide, and sexual dysfunction - oftentimes lasting long after patients stop taking the antidepressant, the industry and FDA's negative impact on clinical practice, the impacts of medicating our kids - a new phenomenon in the last 30 or so years, and how our reliance on medications and polypharmacy is actually reducing our life expectancy.   Dr. Healy is a name known around the world for his decades-long journey of calling the pharmaceutical industry out for their manipulative tactics that heavily contribute to a malfunctioning healthcare system, and an especially poor mental healthcare system in the United States.  You can learn more about his views and his platform on Rxisk.org OR pick up one of his many books which include Pharmageddon and Let Them Eat Prozac among others OR do a simple google search of his name (he's the psychiatrist, not the footballer) and you will find numerous interviews, blog posts, and more.
