5 Minutes to Work Your Core

from The Happy Yoga Podcast · host Jo Hutton

Yoga for Tired People - One short yoga routine a week delivered to your inbox. To do as you are, no need to get out your mat or change your clothes. Hosted by Jo Hutton a Senior Yoga Teacher living in Newcastle Upon Tyne.Hi Tired Yogis,I thought we could spend some time today talking about your BAPs.And no, I don’t mean your bread buns (or anything rude!) I mean your Back, Abs and Pelvic Floor.Otherwise known as your Core muscles. These muscles work together to keep you upright and stable, but often because of postural or behavioural habits we can develop imbalances, where one group of muscles work that little bit harder than the other groups. This is a very common cause of lower back tightness, a weakness in the pelvic floor or abs cause the lower back to tighten in order to stabilise the trunk. And no matter how much you stretch your lower back, it won’t unclench until the root cause is fixed. So to counter this it’s important that we make sure our abs and pelvic floor are firing and strong. Now traditionally a lot of core work is done lying on our backs, these exercises are great but it’s also good to practise exercises standing up as this is the position that we will mostly be using our muscles in day to day life and it helps to build the brain body connection. Also exercising in this way is a lot more accessible, as we can just do a little bit throughout our day rather than having to make time to lie down.So pop the kettle on and while you’re waiting for it to boil give this 5 minute routine a go.Until next time, keep breathing, keep stretching, and keep smiling. 🌸Warmest regards,JoPSI had such a wonderful holiday in Majorca last week, it had me dreaming of an Island getaway yoga retreat next year. So while I’m in the planning stages do let me know where your ideal location for a retreat would be.A Friendly ReminderBefore you begin any new yoga practice or exercise routine, I highly recommend consulting with your healthcare provider. It’s important to ensure that these activities are suitable for you, especially if you have any pre-existing health conditions. Engaging in yoga carries some risk of physical injury, and by participating, you agree to do so voluntarily and assume all associated risks. This is a public episode.
