51. Jazmin Ocampo on Healing, Wellness & Community

from Querida Latina · host queridalatinapodcast

In this conversation, Jazmin “Yaz” Ocampo (pronounced Yahsz-meen) underscores a core belief that guides both her personal journey and her work: caring for oneself is essential to caring for others. She speaks to the need for strategic caring honoring the passion to serve while prioritizing personal well-being so that individuals can show up more grounded, aligned, and impactful in their communities. Born and raised in Chicago’s Gage Park neighborhood to Mexican immigrant parents, Yaz is deeply committed to centering Black and Brown joy. As a wellness coach, she empowers people to take meaningful steps toward fuller, more authentic lives by prioritizing their health and cultivating mindset, movement, and energy practices that support community-rooted healing. Currently a yoga instructor in training, she blends these modalities to help others embrace wellness in accessible and empowering ways. Professionally, Yaz works in Data & Evaluations at AMPT: Advancing Nonprofits, where she supports small Black- and Latine-led organizations on Chicago’s South and West sides in strengthening their sustainability and organizational health. She also serves as Board Secretary for Fields of Dreams Chicago, a nonprofit dedicated to nurturing the genius, wellness, and leadership of Black and Latinx middle school youth as they transform their communities. Beyond her professional and coaching roles, Yaz shares her own evolving wellness journey through social media documenting everything from yoga and strength training to caring for her 75+ plants, practicing salsa, trying simple nourishing recipes, meeting new people, and stretching beyond her comfort zone. Her mission, both online and offline, is to inspire others to explore what a thriving, joyful, and well-balanced life can look like for themselves.   Jazmin's Socials: Biosite: https://bio.site/yazzy.yayy  IG: https://www.instagram.com/yazzy_yayy  TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@yazzy.yayy  YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@yazzy_yayy  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jazminocampo11    Querida Latina Podcast 🎙️ (@queridalatinapodcast) • Instagram photos and videos
