53 | Why Your Budget Keeps Failing: Christian Budgeting, Money Habits & Biblical Financial Stewardship
from The Reclaimed Woman I Christian, Identity, Purpose, Life Coaching · host Christi Ratcliff - Christian Life Coach, Leadership Coach, Identity Coach
IN THIS EPISODE I learned something about money the hard way: getting out of debt and changing the way you handle money are two different things. After eighteen months of working to get my family out of $36,000 of debt, I thought that final payment would feel like nothing but freedom. Instead, I was sitting there with a $1,000 payment in front of me, less than $200 left until payday, and a whole lot of fear. That moment taught me something I still see in financial coaching today: a budget can be mathematically correct and still fail because the behavior underneath it hasn't changed. WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP Proverbs 21:5 “The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” For me, this verse points directly to the difference between intentional planning and impulsive decision-making. Being a faithful steward doesn't mean having the perfect financial plan. It means being willing to sit down, look at the truth, and make a thoughtful plan. Luke 14:28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won't you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?” Jesus wasn't specifically teaching a budgeting system here, but the principle is clear: before we build, we count the cost. That applies to our finances, our homes, our businesses, our careers, and the lives we're building for the Kingdom. YOUR ACTION STEP THIS WEEK I'm not giving you a complicated assignment. I'm asking you to get honest. Step 1: Pull the last twelve months of your bank and credit card statements. Step 2: Categorize every expense. Don't skip the boring ones, the irregular ones, or the ones you'd rather not look at. Step 3: Calculate your true monthly average for each category, including quarterly and annual expenses. That's your starting point. You don't have to fix everything this week. You need to know where you actually are before you decide where you're going. And this is important: I'm not a licensed financial advisor, and this episode isn't intended to replace professional financial advice. I'm sharing from my own experience of getting out of debt and from what I've learned coaching other women through their finances.
