56. Is it Wrong to Let Your Kids Believe in Santa Claus?

With Christmas right around the corner, the magic of the season is amplified for many families by presents under the tree from Santa Claus on Christmas morning. Santa is a symbol of the season to be sure, a representation of generosity and joy, and a seemingly benign diversion that's a fond part of the childhood experience at Christmastime. But is celebrating Santa Claus really just innocent fun? Or does it break trust with our kids? Is it okay to lie to them in the name of tradition? And should we be concerned that our kids, upon learning the truth, will then question other things we've told them, including about more important matters like faith and God? In this episode Brett and Perry debate this issue, discuss things the've wrestled with themselves when deciding whether or not to include Santa as part of their Christmas celebrations, and share perspective that has informed their respective decisions about how to handle Santa in their families.
