#57 Calcium Antagonisten bij hoge bloeddruk

Calcium Antagonisten remmen de instroom van Calcium in de cel en verlagen daarmee de spiersamentrekking . Hierdoor neemt de diameter van de vaten toe (ze trekken immers niet meer samen). Er zijn verschillende calciumkanalen, L-type en T-type zijn de belangrijkste, maar er zijn er nog meer, deze vallen buiten het bestek van deze podcast. Calciumantagonisten hebben als bijwerking vochtophoping (oedeem), duizeligheid, hoofdpijn en blozen, maar kunnen ook de spanning van de slokdarmsfincter verlagen, waardoor ze zuurbranden kunnen verergeren.  Calciumantagonisten zijn effectief als eerstelijns bloeddrukverlager, mogelijk verminderen ze het aantal herseninfarcten en het aantal cardiovasculaire gebeurtenissen.
