from Becoming Yourself · host David Trig

Intro:"Men are more connected digitally than ever before… and yet more disconnected in real life. Studies show that male friendships have been cut in half in the last 30 years. Today, many men can’t name one person they could call in a crisis. This isn’t just a social problem — it’s a spiritual one. And the Church has an answer."Biblical Foundation:Genesis 2:18 – “The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone.’”God said these words before sin entered the world. This means that loneliness is not part of God’s design — even in a perfect garden, Adam needed companionship. If it wasn’t good for Adam to be alone, it’s not good for us either.Main Points:The Scope of the ProblemResearch shows men aged 25–60 are among the loneliest demographic.Loneliness is linked to depression, addiction, and even physical health issues. This is not just a “men’s issue” — it affects families, workplaces, and churches. Why It’s a Spiritual BattleIsolation makes us vulnerable to temptation and despair.1 Peter 5:8 compares the enemy to a lion — and lions hunt the isolated. The devil’s first tactic is often to get us alone in our thoughts.God’s Blueprint for ConnectionFrom the beginning, God made people for community, mission, and relationship.Jesus modeled life with a close group of men — not just teaching them, but eating, walking, serving, and grieving with them.Brotherhood is part of discipleship.Practical Step:This week, pray and ask God to put one man on your heart who might be lonely. Then, send him a simple message or invite him for coffee. Don’t wait for him to reach out — you be the one to step in.Closing Prayer & Challenge:"Lord, You set the lonely in families. Forgive us for ignoring those who feel unseen. Open our eyes to the men in our lives who need connection. Give us the courage to reach out and be the friend we wish we had. In Jesus’ name, Amen."Challenge: Don’t just think about connection — act on it. By next Sunday, have at least one intentional conversation with a man you suspect may be lonely.
