59. Jennell Jones - Is Work Life Balance Possible?

from Enlightenment of Change · host Connie Whitman

Connie's motivational quote is by ~ Zig Ziglar "I believe that being successful means having a balance of success stories across the many areas of your life. You can't truly be considered successful in your business life if your home life is in shambles." For years, we have been hearing inspirational speakers tell us that we can have it all – that we can balance work (i.e. having a rewarding career in a corporate environment, and being credible enough to achieve senior leadership positions) and life (i.e. the spouse, the kids, the family pet and even occasional brunch with friends). Later with the introduction of mobile devices and globalization, some have said it's not about work / life balance, it's about work life integration. Really doesn't matter what we call it, right? Do you have it in your life or do you feel like the word balance is nothing more than a pipe dream? Kind of sad that many of us have to choose to miss dance recitals, or soccer games due to work demands. The reality is that we need to work and need our jobs to pay the bills for the dance and soccer lessons. So where and how do we draw the line? Today your host ,Connie Whitman, speaks with Jennell Jones, CEO of Jennell Jones & Associates, LLC. This Impact Studios production is a collaboration with the Governor family, UTS Faculty of Law and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research. The Last Outlaws teamKatherine Biber - UTS Law Professor and Chief InvestigatorAunty Loretta Parsley - Great-granddaughter of Jimmy Governor and the Governor Family Historian Leroy Parsons - Governor descendant, Narrator and Co-WriterKaitlyn Sawrey - Host, Writer and Senior ProducerFrank Lopez - Writer, Managing Next Generation Energy Systems Cambridge University Background Stakeholders working with energy systems have to make complex decisions formulated from risk-based assessments about the future. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
