As one of eleven children, she was expected to help raise her siblings and follow strict gender roles. When she met her ex-husband, their relationship quickly moved toward marriage under intense pressure from purity culture and family expectations.What followed was an abusive marriage marked by control, gaslighting, and betrayal. With the help of a therapist, Bethany began to recognize the reality of what she had experienced, including abuse that had been normalized in her upbringing.
