#61 The Truth About Food with Dr David Katz MD

from The GP Show · host Dr Sam Manger

Dr David L. Katz, MD, MPH, FACPM, FACP, FACLM is the founding director (1998) of Yale University's Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center, Past-President of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, and Founder/President of the True Health Initiative.  Katz earned his BA degree from Dartmouth College (1984); his MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1988); and his MPH from the Yale University School of Public Health (1993). The recipient of many awards for his contributions to public health, he has received three honorary doctorates. He holds 5 US patents, with others pending.  He invented the research method known as "evidence mapping;" is the principal inventor of the Overall Nutritional Quality Index (ONQI™) algorithm; and invented the dietary intake assessment method called Diet Quality Photo Navigation(https://www.dqpn.io/).  In 2018, Katz was selected as the new Chair for the annual Art & Science of Health Promotion conference.  He has authored roughly 200 peer-reviewed publications, many hundreds of health columns both on-line and in print, and 16 books to date including leading textbooks in both nutrition and preventive medicine.  Katz is recognized globally for expertise in nutrition, weight management and the prevention of chronic disease. http://davidkatzmd.com/ Today we discuss his latest book "The Truth About Food: why pandas eat bamboo and people get bamboozled" which can be found on Amazon and kindle at  https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H8N32NX?ref_=pe_3052080_276849420 He has no conflicts of interest, except all profits from the book sales go to the not-for-profit True Health Initiative.     There are few areas that get as heated as nutrition and food. In this podcast we try to build bridges and consider that there is a lot more in common to different healthy eating philosophies than there is different.  We discuss the importance of a whole-food way of life, the bias and fallacies that can and has influenced this discussion, the approaches to nutrition statistics, the industries/media/egos/ideologies that may influence the food system, the environmental impact of food, reconnecting with real whole food and much more.   If you are interested in the lifestyle medicine movement and want to be apart of it = use the code "TheGPShow" at the checkout to get $110/50% off your first year of membership with the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine. https://www.lifestylemedicine.org.au/ Code: TheGPShow (not case-sensitive)   More information @ www.facebook.com/thegpshow.podcast  As always - Rating 5 stars +/- a review on iTunes is a great help and all I ask for this free resource.   Enjoy Friends
