from Long Term Podcast · host Adven Villa

Juan Caguao & Devon Coady: these two are the epitome of discipline and hard work. Devon, a University of Alberta alumnus with a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance, and Juan, a University of Alberta alumnus with a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, are both dedicated gym enthusiasts known for their consistency in weightlifting. Devon was born in Fort Mac but has lived in his current location all his life. With over 8 years of gym experience, he recently graduated from university and is now searching for a job to start his career. He enjoys golfing and other outdoor hobbies. Juan, born in Venezuela and living in Sherwood Park since 2008, finished university in April and also recently graduated. He transitioned from playing baseball and soccer to focusing on the gym for the past 5 years. Throughout university, he worked part-time and is now looking for a career in his field. Devon and Juan both maintain consistency in their weightlifting routines through long-term goals, a mentality of never being satisfied, and dealing with body dysmorphia. Their motivation comes from setting strength goals, tracking progress, and building on current achievements. The gym environment has influenced their personal and professional lives by boosting confidence, improving social skills, and developing friendships. Devon and Juan have built connections and relationships through their time in the gym. Devon often talks with people during workouts, becoming closer with friends and extending these friendships outside the gym. Juan shared a story about his connection with Genya, which led to a job at a wedding and a trip to Mexico. Both believe that the principles of progress in the gym can be applied to other areas of life, including career and personal development. Devon and Juan use various mental strategies to stay focused and driven both in and out of the gym. Devon emphasizes discipline, setting short-term goals along with long-term outcomes, and overcoming challenges such as a partial pec tear through consistent training and physiotherapy. Juan also highlights the importance of setting short and long-term goals, reflecting on progress, and removing distractions that can hinder success. He believes that maintaining a positive mindset and enjoying the routine are crucial for staying motivated. They both advise others to set attainable goals, take progress pictures, start without waiting for the perfect time, and not try to do everything immediately. KEEP IT LONG TERM!
