62. Swing Tendencies When You Get Nervous and How to Fix Them with Justin Klemballa

from T-Time with Tori Totlis

Listen in as Justin Klemballa and I discuss tendencies golfers fall into when they get nervous, and strategies for nipping those tendencies in the bud! Key Highlights ·      Tendency #1: Tension. When adrenaline is pumping through your veins out on the course, you tend to grip your club a little too tightly. To counter tension, apply the “so theory”: Embrace the negative thought, but immediately follow-up with a solution to direct your fear into strategy. It’s always better to commit to action than to get paralyzed by tension. ·      Tendency #2: Not following through. It’s easy to get overly focused on the ball that you end your swing at the ball itself, as if the ball is your “finish line”. In fact, the ball is only “halftime”. Focus instead on sticking to the finish, where your body ends up facing your target, and your right toe is perfectly pointed. ·      Tendency #3: Transferring weight. At the end of a swing, notice whether you’re transferring your weight too far from the right to the left. ·      Tendency #4: ”Decelerating” during putts or chips. Deceleration tends to happen when you realize that you started with too much of a backswing, and try to slow yourself down throughout the rest of the swing to counteract that initial power. Instead, go with a shorter backswing and allow the acceleration to hit the golf ball. ·      Tendency #5: Speeding up your swing. If you tend to speed up at the backswing or the transition, try to keep your feet together and focus on redirecting the majority of that speed down to the bottom of the swing. ·      Tendency #6: The chicken wing. This is when your right elbow points up while going into the backswing, or when your left elbow points up on the follow-through. Focus on keeping your elbows down all the way through.   Connect with Justin: Instagram YouTube For more information on our monthly coaching membership if you want to break 100 or break 90, please visit: BreakingBogeys.com Subscribe to our FREE Female Golfer Facebook Group: First T Crew [Behind the Scenes of Women’s Golf] Get in touch!
