We speak with Angie Jordan, a powerful local leader who has used her background in social work, community organization, and leadership to transform her community. In this episode we discuss: -Angie’s first ten years that included the separation of her parents at two – The force of women (including her beloved Abuela) that provided energy, excitement, empowerment and adventure to Angie and her sister – The importance of education fostered by both of parents early on -Why knitting is so important to Angie, and how it led to a mindfulness knitting business -Her leadership of “South of 6”, a business improvement district that  promotes kindness, inclusivity, and positive joy while fostering meaningful relationships and impactful change.   Bio: Angie is a native of Iowa City but grew up in the Rio Grande valley of Texas before making her way to college in Massachusetts. She later returned to her hometown of Iowa City in 2008.  Angie is the inaugural executive director of the South of Six Iowa City business district.  Apart from her role in the business district, Angie is a co-creator of the south district market and served as a tri-chair alongside Kate in Better Together 2030. Through her small business, Banjo Knits Empowerment, Angie practices mindfulness and patience, using her guild association Master Knitting Certification, and circle practice to help more people practice kindness and patience towards themselves and others.  She is a Strategic Doing Practioner and former adjunct leadership instructor at the University of Iowa, Angie is also passionate about community organization and has a background in social work, particularly in youth and family empowerment. She strongly believes in the power of connection and that everyone should be allowed to dream big and contribute to creating a shared future.  Angie is a graduate of Williams College, where she double majored in cultural anthropology and cognitive psychology. She is currently pursuing her masters in community development from Iowa State. She is a mother to two elementary school children and her life partner is a fire fighter in Iowa City.
