65. Rachel Engstrom (Cancer Caregiver & Author)

from INTERLUDE: Cancer Stories with Dr. Teplinsky · host Dr. Teplinsky

On today’s episode, I am speaking with Rachel Engstrom. Rachel was only 28 years old when her husband, Grayson, was diagnosed with leukemia. She was thrust into a new role of navigating the cancer world. Not only was she providing support and care for her husband but she was also figuring insurance, employment, disability, legalities, finances and much more. Grayson passed away two days after Rachel’s 31st birthday and she found herself saying “Now what?” We talk about what she did when she left the hospital after he passed, what she did the next morning and what she’s doing now, several years later. Rachel has written the incredible memoir, “Wife, Widow, Now What?” which is part memoir/part how-to guide/resource for others in similar situations. Rachel’s grit, resilience and positivity shine throughout the episode and I hope you enjoy and learn from it!
