Vielleicht hat Virginia Satir genau das später tatsächlich getan. Sie wurde Lehrerin, Sozialarbeiterin und schliesslich eine der prägendsten Frauen der Familientherapie. Sie begann, nicht mehr nur den Menschen mit dem vermeintlichen «Problem» anzuschauen, sondern die ganze Familie in einen Raum zu holen. Und plötzlich wurde sichtbar, was Familien so meisterhaft verbergen können. Wer macht sich klein? Wer wird laut? Wer rettet? Wer schweigt? Und warum können wir mit 50 Jahren unsere Mutter besuchen – und uns nach einem einzigen Satz wieder fühlen wie mit fünf? Doch hinter der berühmten Therapeutin steckt auch eine überraschende Lebensgeschichte: eine beinahe tödliche Kindheitserfahrung, zwei gescheiterte Ehen, der Verlust der Möglichkeit, eigene Kinder zu bekommen, eine ganz andere Form von Mutterschaft – und eine Frau, die selbst nie aufgehört hat zu lernen. In dieser Folge folgen wir Virginia Satirs Weg von einer Farm in Wisconsin bis in die grossen Therapiesäle der Welt.
