7/29/26: Finding God in the Humdrum Days

from Sunday and Daily Mass Homilies by Fr. Aristotle · host Fr. Aristotle Quan

Wednesday Mass. 7.29.26. Homily on the feast of Sts. Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. I talk about how each of them teaches us something different — Martha shows us that service is good but our energy has to be directed toward the better part; Mary shows us what it means to be a true disciple who sits at the feet of the Lord; and Lazarus shows us how deeply Jesus loves us, even in silence. I also talk about how so much of Jesus' life with this family was ordinary — just being present, eating, spending time together — and how God sanctifies our humdrum, ordinary days too, not just the dramatic ones. I share a story about a woman who felt her life was "useless" once she could no longer serve actively, and some advice a mentor once gave me about learning to be faithful in the unremarkable moments, not just the exciting ones.
