Discipleship and More The Bible repeatedly emphasizes the importance of discipleship. Jesus commanded us to go and make disciples of all nations, spreading His teachings and bringing others into His fold (Matthew 28:19-20). The Hebrew word for disciple, "Talmud," appears 269 times in the Old Testament, emphasizing the role of being a student or learner. By embracing discipleship, we embark on a journey of continuous growth and deepening our understanding of God's ways. 1. Matthew 28:19-20 (NIV) - "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Additionally, the Bible highlights the significance of acquiring wisdom and developing skills. The Old Testament uses the word "chakam" to describe wisdom or being skilled, appearing approximately 148 times. The New Testament employs the Greek word "mathētēs" for disciple or learner, appearing around 261 times. These words encompass the idea of acquiring knowledge, deepening understanding, and continuously expanding our skills. 1. Proverbs 9:9 (NIV) - "Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still; teach the righteous, and they will add to their learning." Adapting to Change We are currently experiencing a technological revolution that is reshaping our world. The digital revolution is inevitable, and rather than fearing it, we must equip ourselves with knowledge and understanding.
