724. Big's Backyard, World Half and On This Day | Endurance Twiiter
from Endurance Noise & Random Musings · host AND3RSON
52 years ago today, Madeline Manning Mims become the first Black woman to win the Olympic 800m title. Her winning time of 2:00.9 was an American and Olympic record. To this day, she remains the only American woman to ever earn Olympic gold in the event. out of the 4 remaining teams in the satellite only one of them has room for error. mexico still has 3 runners in the field. if one goes out, they race on. belgium, sweden, and the US have only 2. if you are in one of those races you not only have to stay healthy yourself, you have to hope your opponent and teammate also takes care of themself. if one runner of a pair goes out, they take the other with them after only one additional lap. Women's results at the World Half Marathon Championships were ridiculous. Six women under 66:00 and nine under 67:00 (both all-time records). 65 of the 101 finishers ran personal bests! 46 degrees F and overcast + Jepkosgei pushing pace + latest shoe tech = tons of PBs. 10 men under 60:00 at the World Half -- just the second time in history that has happened (first was the 2019 RAK Half). Endurance Noise & Random Musings Stay Healthy. Be Boring. Not Epic.
