#74 Deprescribing guides with Dr Peter Tenni Pharmacist

Dr Peter Tenni is widely recognised as one of Australia's leading clinical pharmacy practitioners and trainers with over 40 years' experience. He is a clinical senior lecturer at the University of Tasmania, a Director of Medscope and Director of Consultant Pharmacy Services.  He is the lead author of the deprescribing guides from the PHN Primary Health Tasmania which we are going to discuss today and will be updated on the website after May 9th.  These cover a range of principles and specific medications from opioids, benzo, PPIs, statins, aspirin, antihypertensives, antihyperglycaemics and many more.  I am very grateful for these because there is no shortage of guidelines on how to prescribe more medication but very few on how to get people safely and beneficially off medication in an evidence-based manner.  We discuss the general need and principles of deprescribing and then focus on two high-risk medications; opioids and benzodiazepines.  You can visit the website to view the current guidelines directly and these are soon to be updated. https://www.primaryhealthtas.com.au/resources/deprescribing-guides/   As always rating 5 stars in iTunes is a great help.
