77. The Tragedy of Birna Brjánsdóttir: Iceland's Shocking Crime

In January 2017, Iceland was shaken by the disappearance and murder of 20-year-old Birna Brjánsdóttir. After leaving a Reykjavik club, Birna vanished, with her last phone signal traced to a harbor miles away. A red car linked to the Polar Nanoq vessel and its crew led investigators to suspect Thomas Olsen, a Greenlander with a criminal record. DNA evidence, Birna’s belongings, and her eventual discovery near a lighthouse confirmed his guilt. Convicted of her murder, Thomas was sentenced to 19 years in prison.
