8. The Myth of Intuition?
from Too Human with Nurse Nell · host Danelle
Intuition is a huge buzzword in the wellness community. For someone with a highly sensitive nervous system, intuition can feel strong, but this could actually be a strong trauma response. For people with a history of trauma, the moving away from uncomfortable situations could actually perpetuate trauma in certain situations, as violence can feel more comfortable than peace. For example, oftentimes people with a history of trauma and a highly-sensitive nervous system can experience peace/quietness as boredom or discomfort. They may feel more comfortable in a chaotic environment if this is the environment they were raised in/are used to. Untangling trauma from intuition and sensing the subtle somatic differences is key. Ok so I said "flight, flee"LOL Also, my description of the nervous system is a little off at one point - let me clarify: the hypothalamus controls the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. These systems have opposite actions - when one is activated, the other is inhibited.
