81. The Vanishing of Yukiko Tanabe: A Mystery of Unanswered Questions

from Buried

In 2001, 50-year-old Yukiko Tanabe mysteriously disappeared from her home in Hiroshima, Japan. On the morning of her disappearance, she called her friend Hotoko, arranging to meet for lunch. Odd phone calls from Yukiko followed, with brief and cryptic sounds, before all contact ceased. Later that day, Yukiko’s husband, who was hospitalized, returned home with the friend to find everything seemingly normal except for Yukiko’s absence and her phone being last traced 20 km away. A bizarre letter from an alleged lover claiming Yukiko had willingly left added to the confusion, but her husband dismissed this as a ploy to mislead investigators. Suspicious elevator footage showed an unknown man near the apartment during her disappearance, but police were unpersuaded and dismissed the case as a romantic elopement. Despite his relentless efforts, Yukiko’s husband failed to uncover the truth, and the case remains an unsolved cold case. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
