The Ukrainian animator Igor Kovalyov is one of the masters of post-Soviet animation. He was a part of the founding of the first independent animation studio in Russia in 1988, has worked as an animator for The Simpsons, and directed Rugrats at the Hollywood studio Klasky/Csupo. He is most cherished for his short films for adults, which have won prizes across the globe. At this Master Class, Kovalyov will share how he found his unique style, where the color palette and graphics interact with rhythmic structures to create bitter-sweet, comic portrayals of human existence.
