87. Candlemas Waldorf Festival, How to Make Candles with Melisa Nielsen
from Waldorf Essentials
We traditionally make candles to celebrate Candlemas. Candlemas marks the end of Christmastide. It is known by some as the day Jesus was presented at the Temple. It is also a festival celebrating St. Brigid. She was a girl with divine wisdom to some and a goddess to others. It is called Imbolc for Pagan faiths. Traditionally Brigid is the goddess of the well and the flame. She marks the beginning of spring and brings us out of the darkness of winter. I like to think of Brigid as taking the flame from Saint Martin who carried it into the winter. It was then strengthened by the Light born in the middle with the Solstice and the birth of the Sun/Son. Now Brigid carries it into the world, whispering to all the plants that spring is on her way. From Martin's lantern to the Light at the center of our Solstice spiral and now to Brigid. The flame is tended and the renewal has begun. -How to make rolled candles You will need: cotton wicks (without clips)honeycomb wax sheets -How to make poured candles You will need: cotton wicks (with clips), beeswax pellets or a block of wax, wax melter, or double boiler. -How to make dipped candles You will need: cotton wicks (without clips), beeswax pellets or block of wax, wax melter, or double boiler. https://www.waldorfessentials.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/waldorf_essentials/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WaldorfEssentials/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/waldorfessentials/_created/Twitter: https://twitter.com/WaldorfMelisa
