877 || shifting society || toxic work culture
from Make Your Damn Bed
Work, as we know it, its a recent construct. We must begin to think RADICALLY about the nuclear family and how we structure our lives and our goals and our sense of internal fulfillment. We’ve shaped our lives around work, and we must de-center the toxicity of work culture as a society if we want to escape it. If we decenter work we can prioritize communal spaces and sharing culture and the commons, in a way that prioritizes luxury for ALL people, not just the few. Plus, decentering the idea of work culture as we know it, we will automatically improve the perceived value of domestic labor and child rearing. That shit has never been respected, but it’s a full time job, and we should have the time to treat it like one.
