“私会党” 三个字犹如邪魔外道，总让人联想到新加坡早年横行一时，危害社会安宁的非法组织。 在新加坡自治时期出生，本地文史工作者李国樑成长的年代，学校老师经常告诫学生不要加入私会党，以免祸害自身和家人。 1966年的罪犯调查档案忠，本地私会党徒约9000人，以15岁至30岁居多。 新加坡开埠初期，私会党源自中国清朝的天地会，是一个以反清复明为目标的革命组织。其中的会员后来纷纷出逃到南洋，来到新加坡避难，在异乡的天地会成员，大多文化水平有限，谋生技能不高，主要从事劳力工作，为了生存，他们通过争夺地盘和保护码头来维持生计，随着时间推移，这些组织逐渐变质，开始设计赌博、毒品等非法活动，对社会治安造成极大威胁。See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
