99. Your Diagnosis is Not the Problem - Your Shame Is.
from Too Human with Nurse Nell · host Danelle
I feel zero shame taking medications when I need them. What I do feel is: -Gratitude for them -Curiosity about how my body reacts with them -Relief when they work well (and they do) AND -A willingness to actively address my anxiety/digestive issues so these meds are a last resort. I’m aware these are potent medications and understand the potential side effects. But I don’t feel shame. I happen to not taken them regularly…and less over time….but even having them with me helps a lot. Just the idea that I have some powerful band aid solutions to panic and pain makes my nervous system relax a little more. Medications are tools just like anything else. There a time and a place for them. Sometimes what we need to get our shit right is screaming into the void, journaling, sleeping more, sunshine, listening to whale sounds, forgiveness, ashwaganda… …and sometimes what we need to get our shit right is a year of Zoloft. Fuck the dichotomous thinking that ALL natural i.e. herbal solutions, holistic solutions etc. are somehow morally superior. OR that holistic medicine is bullshit. Both views honestly suck a$$. I am not a fan of big pharma as an industry…. But I don’t hate Ativan for getting me through one of the darkest times of my life when all my trauma was resurfacing and I couldn’t function in society. Just like there’s a time and a place for breath work, somatic therapy, talk therapy, coaching, herbal supplements, psychedelic experiences, sunning your b-hole (LOL DOOD), IV infusions, etc., there’s a time and place for Western medication. Releasing shame/stigma about taking medication is restorative in itself. ♥️ Book a 60-minute connection call with me: https://danelle-gallo.mykajabi.com/Schedule
