A Mixed Bag

A new Porchmen podcast starts with a quick lowdown on our holiday exploits, along with the fates of Spurs and United during their progress in the league. Andrew discusses perception of playstyle in the sports media. Spurs have an easier run-in to the Carabao Cup final, though a challenging tie with Chelsea was an early hurdle. Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino assumes the helm at Paris Saint-Germain, but what can a mid-season manager really do taking over during the second half of the season? Big clubs want bright managers— Julian Nagelsmann of Leipzig looks primed for a leap after this season, but where will he end up? United are showing the promise that they have known in the past, and half the season yet to prove their position in the Prem. COVID is the new reality in our world and in sports as well, but the disease can also inflict itself on top athletes. We weigh the moral balance of enjoying the competition while being aware of the present risks for real humans with real lives involved in the action. Recorded on 1/6.
