A naturalist journey through Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park

This is a story of nature in fall, high in the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia’s Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park. It’s a vast landscape where the wind sighs over rock and heather. The trees struggle up the steep ridges and end in mats and twisted bonsais. The fingerprint of the glaciers is fresh, and life grows slowly in patient forms over the glacial rubble. This story sketches the natural landscape of this park. We get to know American dippers in the mossy streams, pikas and weasels among the talus slopes, migrating eagles and hawks along the ridges, pine grosbeaks and warblers among the mountain-ashes, and much more. The ambient sounds in this episode include chestnut-backed chickadees that I recorded in western Montana as well as pine grosbeaks and a pika that I recorded in Kokanee Glacier Park.
