A New Translation of the Orphic Hymns, Remembering Purpose, Myth of Orpheus in Connection to the Natural World & Belonging as a Spiritual Nerd w/ Kristin Mathis of Mysteria Mundi

Kristin Mathis of Mysteria Mundi (meaning "Mysteries of the World") is a scholar of ancient Mediterranean esoterica, magic and religion, and is working on a new translation of the Orphic Hymns that does justice to the many layers ad meaning in the texts, which formed the backbone of the Orphic Mystery tradition. The Orphic Hymns mention natural phenomena like the planets, earth, clouds, heavens, etc. as they presuppose a cosmos that is alive and vibrant which we can come into direct conversation with. In this episode Kristin and I chat about her journey of translating this set of hymns in Ancient Greek, sharing the importance of recovering ancestral practices that we've forgotten and how they relate to the world around us, the influence of her childhood in Borneo, remembering our purpose, the importance of myth in our daily lives and culture, the Myth of Orpheus as a story about coming into relationship with the natural world and listening to the world and its creatures, our struggles of feeling belonging as a "spiritual nerd" and intuitively communicating with an old Willow Tree as a personal healing practice.
