A Pod of Their Own, Episode 250: Missing - One Ryan Helsley

from Home Run Applesauce: A New York Mets podcast · host Home Run Applesauce

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space.  This week, the Mets are finally playing a little bit better, but they still aren’t getting great results. We talk about Mark Vientos and Brett Baty heating up, finally getting some quality starts from the pitchers, and the mess that is Ryan Helsley and the Mets’ bullpen. We also talk about the latest injuries that have befallen the Mets—Frankie Montas, Francisco Alvarez, and Reed Garrett.  Next, we officially launch Dollars for Dingers 2025, where our community raises money to benefit survivors of domestic violence for every Mets home run in the month of September. You can make a pledge using our Google Sheet and you can join us for our in-person raffle event at Lion’s Head Tavern on September 20th at 2:00pm. All proceeds benefit the National Domestic Violence Hotline. In the second half of the show, we discuss the Yankees drafting a player who committed a hate crime and the Rockies being eliminated from playoff contention in August. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.  You can listen or subscribe to all of our wonderful Home Run Applesauce podcasts through Apple Podcasts, where we encourage you to leave a review if you enjoy the show. It really helps! And you can find us on the Stitcher app, Spotify, or listen wherever you get podcasts.
