A Pod of Their Own, Episode 290: Prestamistas

Welcome back to A Pod of Their Own, an all-women led Home Run Applesauce podcast where we talk all things Mets, social justice issues in baseball, and normalize female voices in the sports podcasting space. This week, we begin by discussing what has been a good week for Dollars for Dingers, especially Saturday’s game. We also chat about giving the Marlins a taste of their own medicine for a change and the factors Bo Bichette is weighing when deciding whether to opt out. But we spend the bulk of the show discussing investigative reporting by Propublica about the exploitative system in the Dominican Republic that preys on poor families and a companion story about how Oneil Cruz’s parents brought in a fixer to pay off the families of the three young people he killed to make the problem go away and save his baseball career. Finally, we wrap things up with Walk-off Wins, where each of us talks about what’s making us happy this week, baseball-related or otherwise.
