A Raw Conversation on Overdose, Nearly Dying In Peru and Finding Her Life Purpose with Stevie Mayer

from Go Regulate Yourself · host Brianne Roberge

Today in our 'Friday's with Friends' feature we are chatting with Stevie Mayer about the difficult journey she has had through life in overcoming trauma, healing herself, and finding her life purpose. She shares with us what things looked like at the very beginning when she struggled with addiction, suffered an overdose, and felt completely disconnected from herself. She walks us through her journey to finding her passion, love and courage in backpacking- and how this changed her life, and the lives of the women that she now coaches. But, unfortunately for her, the journey of healing from trauma doesn't end there.  Earlier this year in 2025 she faced yet another hardship that rocked her world when her appendix ruptured, she went septic, and she had to have emergency surgery- all while abroad in Peru with a language barrier and no one around. Together we explore how she's coping, what these painful moments have taught her, and the secret to rising above even the most horrific experiences. This conversation is raw, deeply intimate, and powerful- and you don't want to miss a moment of it.  Here's A Little About Stevie + Her Journey:I'm Stevie- coach, founder of Mountain Beast Performance, and a woman who rebuilt her life in the mountains after nearly dying from an overdose at 26. I was lost, broken, and exhaustingly desperate for change. So I booked my first long-distance solo backpacking trip- and it changed the trajectory of my life forever. Since then, I've hiked over 30,000 miles across 28 countries. Now, I've helped hundreds of women build strength, confidence and endurance for hiking and backpacking, and start living a life of intentional adventure. I use the mountains in my coaching because they don't let you fake it. You're either willing to do hard things or you're not. And when you push through something that feels impossible- that changes your brain chemistry. You stop quitting when things get hard. You stop avoiding discomfort and learn how to face it. You learn to handle hard shit without falling apart. You stop allowing fear to run your life. That kind of thing shows up everywhere- how you talk to people, how you set boundaries, how you handle yourself In a weird trade off- you end up realizing it is not actually about the summit. It's about who you become in the process of reaching it.  Find + Connect With Stevie Here: Follow her on Instagram HERECheck out her website + offers HERE  Connect on Instagram:Your Coach BrianneGo Regulate Yourself Connect on Facebook:Your Coach BrianneGo Regulate Yourself
