As the times change, Rose must accept the end of vaudeville, the rise of burlesque, and the price exacted on her daughter by her drive to succeed. Set across America in the 1920s and 30s, Arthur Laurents’ milestone show includes a celebrated score by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim. With one notable hit after another, including “Everything's Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,” and “You Gotta Get A Gimmick,” “Gypsy” has been regarded as a quintessential American musical. The director of “Gypsy” is Erica Wyman Abrahamson with choreography by Christopher Childers. The music director is Bill Hayes and the vocal director is Bradley Baker. The role of Rose is played by Julia Hoffert of Ann Arbor, while her daughters, Louise and June, are played by Emma Skaggs of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Abigail Lipsitz of Saline. The role of Herbie is played by Jared Hoffert of Ann Arbor. Cece Underwood of Adrian plays the role of Baby June and Giuliana Kozak of Toledo, Ohio, plays the role of Baby Louise. Kai Yuen of Adrian plays the role of Tulsa and Cindy Eberhardt of Perrysburg, Ohio, plays the role of Electra. The role of Tessie Tura is played by Erica Abrahamson and the role of Mazeppa is played by Stephanie L. Stephan of Toledo, Ohio. Rounding out the cast are Alexandros Coumoundouros, Conner Raymond, and Briella York of Adrian; Sarah Hoffert of Ann Arbor; Quincy Graf of Blissfield; Bob Eccles of Carleton; Caroline Hubbard of Chelsea; Emmarie Barden and Olivia Grzebik of Clinton; Vivienne Taylor of Ottawa Lake; Abby Dotz and Norah Stukey of Saline; Ashley Thornton Murdock of West Bloomfield; Jake Aviles, Samie Aviles, and Noah Guerra of Ypsilanti; Piper Dillon and Maddox Reitz of Sylvania, Ohio; Joe Capucini of Toledo, Ohio; and Raleigh DuShane of Whitehouse, Ohio. “Gypsy” opens on June 12. The first weekend will have performances on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The second weekend will have performances on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Tickets range from $26 to $46 for adults and $16 to $26 for students, and may be ordered online at croswell.org or by calling 517-264-7469.
