Kal’s parents are working-class citizens with interesting backstories, fixing space farming equipment and rightfully pointing out hazardous mining conditions. And somehow, in this first book we don’t see Krypton explode, only leak toxic gas that turns middle managers into Jonah Hex. Superman (Kal) is presently on Earth in Brazil, throwing diamond mining operations into disarray and fighting a horde of John Cenas.
