AC 50. NEW BABYLON 《新巴比伦》| Track 02. Drift Through Babylon
from Palimpsest | 行间
“Drift”is a carefree wandering, carried by puddles, mud, sounds, streets, and imagination. Track 02. Drift Through Babylon《Drift Through Babylon》 是一首从孩子视角出发的城市幻想曲。 “Drift Through Babylon” is a playful urban fantasy seen through the eyes of a six-year-old child. A poor neighborhood becomes a giant playground: a puddle becomes a river, mud becomes a map, a street pole becomes a guard, an old tire becomes a race car, and a cardboard box becomes a castle. The child doesn't see poverty the way adults do. He simply sees things to discover, things to touch, things to turn into games. He wanders through the streets with endless curiosity and imagination.Built around very simple, repetitive English and the infectious refrain “Drift, drift, Babylon,” the song has the feel of a children's chant mixed with French jazz. Short French scat passages and playful vocal phrases drift in and out like a child humming to himself while walking through the neighborhood. Here, “drift” means more than walking. It is a carefree wandering, carried by puddles, mud, sounds, streets, and imagination. Babylon is both a real poor neighborhood and a magical kingdom as seen through the eyes of a six-year-old.--Track 02. Drift Through Babylon[Verse 1]Look!
