History was made last week in Washington, D.C. as the statue of Civil Rights leader and trailblazing educator, Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune was unveiled in the Capitol’s Statuary Hall. Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune is the first Black person elevated by a state for recognition in Statuary Hall. In celebration of Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune’s historic statue, we recognize her many achievements and the lasting impact she has made on the education system. Later, we drive into the cost of a college education and whether barriers such as systemic racism and the overwhelming price tag universities have prevent students from attending college.
