La actividad y expansión de nuestra especie se ha convertido en una de las mayores presiones evolutivas del momento. Entre los casos más llamativos está el de la evolución de ida y vuelta de la polilla moteada, sucedida en Inglaterra debido, primero, a la contaminación causada por la Revolución Industrial y, segundo, a la descontaminación. Otro caso muy ilustrativo es el del mosquito del metro de Londres, adaptado a las regiones subterráneas gracias a la utilización de las mismas durante los bombardeos de la II guerra mundial.
