Eine Kirche in Adelsdorf ist anno 1308 erstmals urkundlich verbrieft. Weil sie für die wachsende Pfarrgemeinde zu klein geworden war, entstand in den Jahren 1908 und 1909 die neue Pfarrkirche St. Stephanus. Die fünf Stahlglocken auf dem Turm der St.-Stephanus-Kirche hat der Bochumer Verein 1949 angefertigt.
