AGOA, Cape Town harbour and exporters
from Die ekonomie minuut · host Waldo Krugell
Over the last few days, there has been interesting reporting about the AGOA summit and its importance for South African exports to the US. Policy makers are quick to talk about export-led economic growth, but news about the crisis at Cape Town harbour and the dampener it can put on citrus exports in particular shows that domestic factors also play a role in the competitiveness of our exports. What we easily forget is that it is not the country that exports, but businesses. This episode is supported by Economic Research Southern Africa and the NWU Business School. Errors and omissions are my own.
