Aldina Duarte nasceu em Lisboa, em 1967. Quando era pequena, durante um período de tempo, quis ser escritora. Leitora precoce, começou por acreditar que o que lia nos livros era tudo verdade e existia, até descobrir que havia uma coisa chamada imaginação, e foi dessa revelação que nasceu a vontade de escrever. Cito-a numa entrevista já antiga: “Foi a única profissão que quis ter; se afinal se pode inventar o mundo e a vida como queremos…”. Foi residente durante 25 anos numa das mais reconhecidas casas de fado de Lisboa, o Sr. Vinho, sob direcção artística de Maria da Fé. Estreou-se a cantar para os outros no teatro da Comuna, em 1994, quando organizava as Noites do Fado com o também fadista e ex marido Camané, e uma letra de Manuela de Freitas chamada “Antes de Quê”, que nunca mais deixou de cantar. Tem com a música e a literatura uma relação de amor, e explica que ambas podiam salvá-la. Diz que a profissão de fadista a obriga a estar em contacto com os seus sentimentos diariamente, e que tudo o que acontece na sua vida interfere com os seus fados, assim como tudo o que acontece nos seus fados interfere com a sua vida. Neste sentido “ser fadista é uma arte que se confunde com a vida (…) vivemos entre o abismo e o céu”.
