He received his DDS degree and his MS in orthodontics from Louisiana State University. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and an active member of the American Association of Orthodontics, the Southwestern Association of Orthodontics, and the past president of the Louisiana Association of Orthodontics. He is also a member of the American Dental Association and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Louisiana Dental Association. He is also a member of the Cleft Palate Team of Northeast Louisiana. Caples is a collector of vintage convertible cars and rare watches. He spends his spare time with his wife Lynna, traveling or enjoying his family of two children and 4 grandsons.
