Alive | Peter | Living in Freedom
from Sutton Vineyard · host SVC Admin
This week, Libby continues our series Alive, and explores freedom in Christ through the lens of Peter's life. Peter, a flawed disciple who denied Jesus, is used as an example of how Jesus offers freedom to us all. Freedom is a journey rather than a destination, and none of us are completely free until the Kingdom of God comes in all its fullness, but Jesus offers us increasing freedom from the struggles we might face. Libby looks at four aspects of Peter’s life that show us some of the ways we can find freedom in Christ: Present Frustration: When facing struggles, Jesus guides us like He helped the discouraged fishermen fill their nets. Past Failure: Jesus forgives and restores, as He did with Peter's remorseful denial. Future Futility: Jesus replaces feelings of pointlessness with purpose, giving Peter a renewed calling to lead the church. Comparison: Jesus frees us from envy by reminding us, like Peter, to focus on our own unique path with God. Jesus offers us ongoing freedom, not a one-time fix. We are invited to surrender to His love and grace, finding freedom through Him from past mistakes, present difficulties, and future anxieties. This freedom empowers us to live a life of purpose and love.
