Laurel Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia is the final resting place for many notable men, including Declaration of Independence signer Thomas McKean, Civil War General George Meade, locomotive magnate Matthias Baldwin, astronomer David Rittenhouse, and Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas, plus many Union generals and even fictional characters like Adrian Balboa. But it is also home to tens of thousands of unique and accomplished women of the past three centuries. One man, Joe Lex, a retired emergency medicine doctor of 45 years, was inspired to learn of the history behind who is buried at this historical cemetery that tells not just Philadelphia’s history, but a history of the nation since its founding in 1836.
