Einen ganzen Tag lang dauert es, bis in der Pfarrkirche Maria Himmelfahrt im unterfränkischen Salz die etwa 40 Figuren und die Krippenkulisse aufgebaut sind: Martin Schmitt, Küster, Bürgermeister und Werkzeugmacher, pflegt das Erbe seines Urgroßvaters Philipp Limpert. Der Landwirt kam 1924 auf die Idee, eine Krippe mit mechanisch betriebenen Figuren zu bauen. Von Generation zu Generation übernahm ein anderer aus der Familie die Verantwortung für das Kunstwerk. Bis heute ein echter „Hingucker“!
