Amanda McQueen – GPYS 273

from 9to5 (dotcc) Podcast Network (Montreal)

The Montreal podcast that asks comedian Amanda McQueen: “What’s the most interesting place you’ve had sex?” – asked by our last guest Pat Hickey back in episode 272. If you’ve never had the chance to hear Amanda McQueen perform standup then you’ve just run out of excuses. That’s right, Amanda has released a brand new comedy album called “A Hot Dog in Every Pocket” and it’s available literally everywhere. You might notice that the energy levels of this episode are maybe a smidge lower than normal – that’s because I had an extremely long day at work and both Inés and Amanda were recovering from binging both seasons of White Lotus. They also got sick. So the whole tone of this episode is very low-key and cozy. It’s kind of the perfect late February episode. I would suggest making yourself a cup of tea and curling up with a blanket before you listen to 3 low-energy people talk about TV shows and walking around with your pants around your ankles. Seriously though, you can get this album EVERYWHERE – just check out Amanda’s hotdog-tree. Inés Anaya never stops finding ways to be funny: writing for Hindwing Press and The Beaverton, running shows like Stand Up Story Slam and getting on the mic at comedy shows all over the city when it is legally possible to do so. The move towards more renewables in our energy systems complicates matters even further, requiring the development of an integrated power grid and continuous and steady transformation of the UK power system. Network flows must be managed reliably under uncertain demands, uncertain supply, emerging network technologies and possible failures and, further, prices in related markets can be highly volatile. Mathematicians working with engineers and economists, can make significant contributions to address such issues, by helping to develop fit-for-purpose models for next generation energy systems. These interdisciplinary approaches are looking to address a range of associated problems, including modelling, prediction, simulation, control, market and mechanism design and optimisation.
